About The Seventy Newsletter

Let me tell you about myself

I am a Catholic, a child of God.

Wife, Mom and Nonna.

I am a life-long learner and I seek to know our Lord deeply.

In this picture, taken in the summer of 2023, you see me, my bike and Lake Erie behind me. I was an avid rider. Riding allowed me a freedom to explore many countrysides viewing God’s creation, and I loved the freedom riding gave me. When this picture was taken last summer, it was the first time I had ridden my bike in five years. The complications of Fibromyalgia had hindered me from riding. Through this experience and many others, I have learned that everything is possible with God.

During my time of uncertainty, I came upon the bible reading or Jesus curing of the paralytic,(Mark 2:1-12), a bible passage that spoke to my heart. I have been in both positions in my life, the man who could not move, and I have been that friend that brought others to Jesus. What struck me the most is “the after”. After you bring the friend and witness the miracle, what do you do next?

I decided that I would use my gifts to help God’s people. The story can not stop at bringing or healing the friend.  It is about the encounter with Jesus. It is about getting to know Him and spreading that “Good News”. The good news is that Jesus loves us, He died for us and because of that our sinners are forgiven. Because of Jesus heaven is our reward.

Here I am, Hoping and praying that Rise Ministry and all of its parts will help to spread this good news. And one of the ways that I do this is through The Seventy Newsletter. If you have found your way here you must be seeking something too. Whether you’re feeling lost, confused or struggling with life events, Jesus is here for you.

Then came

The Seventy

I still long to understand what my purpose in life is. My life has changed.

I want to explain why I named the newsletter “The Seventy”. I had been discerning for a long time what was next for me in my life’s journey. Limitations had made that question difficult; I tossed around blogging and landed on doing a newsletter. One day, I read the daily bible reading the passage was Luke 10:1-12 (Luke – Chapter 10 – Bible – Catholic Online), the title was “The mission of the Seventy ” (also known as “The Seventy Two”). As I was thinking and praying through this passage, I was inspired!

How wonderful it would be to have Jesus tell you what your purpose is; that is exactly what he did for the seventy people he had called to discipleship. He told them to go ahead of Him, to the places He wanted to go. They were to cure the sick and say to them that the kingdom of God is nearby. Although Jesus does not directly say to us “go here and do this”, he does give us the opportunity to discern, (free will) that we are in the right place. We often get caught up with “what God’s plan is for me”?When I read the passage, I was kind of envious of “The Seventy”. I mean who would not want Jesus to be right in front of you and say to you, “here this is your job, this is what I want you to do, go ahead of me and do it”.

However, what I do know is that I am a child of God and when God formed me, as He told Jeremiah in 1:5 (Jeremiah – Chapter 1 – Bible – Catholic Online) “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you”; and he also sent the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit to me at Confirmation. In doing this He prepared me. The question is how do I use these gifts, with who and when?

I still long to understand what my purpose in life is. My life has changed a great deal over the past three years. An example of my purpose now is my ministry from my kitchen, in preparing and making food for my family.  I have come to know that your purpose is found where you land, with the people that are around you and with the abilities that you have in that moment. God does not expect us to be great. The great comes when we let go of our expectations of what things should be like and let them happen through the workings of the Holy Spirit, the way that God intends.

The name “The Seventy” came from a longing to be like them, but in the end, we are them! Each one of us with our unique gifts and all we need to do is embrace them in the moments that we are in. Life is meant to be lived. In that living there will be moments that are more difficult, and moments filled with grace. Each moment if we are open, is an opportunity to grow in the understanding of our purpose, ultimately it is leading others to know God, because that is who we are all longing for.
